“it’s totalary magical and you get to believe it”

california has been a whirlwind of wonderful activities, so far, and it is thoroughly kicking my butt. yesterday we took the girls to Disneyland. It was darla’s first time in an amusement park. she was amused. here’s just a bit of the day:

well, what can i say about the day? thanks to the precision science the buzzker family has perfected of amusement park going, we thoroughly covered the parks. Our coined phrase was “thrilled to the max.” Darla was pretty enthused about her first trip to disneyland.

i hadn’t been on a rollercoaster since before darla was born and it was soooo good. i have this, ummm, we’ll call it a “condition” where i just start laughing uncontrollably on rides. it’s prominent in the teacup video if anyone wants to hear. i’m sorry that the audio in that is just me laughing hysterically. being whirled through space just makes me astoundingly giddy, i guess.

hubster, i soooo wished you could have been there. i wish you could be here for the whole trip. in the words of elsa bun as she was preparing d for the disney experience:

“IT’S TOTALARY MAGICAL AND YOU GET TO BELIEVE IT!”

yes, it totalary was.

ummm i have to do THAT again in 9 days???

ok. WOW. i thought flying with darla yesterday would be a piece of cake since it was about her 12th round trip flight but it was quite a test in patience. i basically told my friends to keep my child away from me for at least an hour so i could reprogram and get myself back to a good mommy place. that wasn’t really a problem since elsa and darla revolved in their own world for most of the night, just happy to be together.

i won’t bore everyone with details but it went a lot like this: i bought darla a muffin for breakfast. it was a very crumbly muffin. darla bit right into the center and then basically the whole thing crumbled into two pieces and fell on the ground. freaking $4 airport muffin. Then at lunch all she requested was a banana. She unpeeled the banana and proceeded to bite right into a big brown spot and then the banana split in two pieces and fell on the ground. freaking $1.75 airport banana.

it wasn’t all bad. it’s pretty endearing to see your child charging her way through the airport towards her bestie. darla said she would race me to be the first one to see elsa. as she sped past me on the ramp she turned around and shouted “i tooted at you to slow you down!”  she did, in fact, get to be the first one to elsa. their reunion was the thing nickelodeon movies are made of. i mean, it amused the lead singer of linkin park, who was coincidentally in the airport because of some nickelodeon awards event this weekend.

it was all worth it to see these two together again. I am SO happy to be here.

how i work it

i bet you thought this was going to be a post about how i keep this figure all nice and trim. no, silly. it’s about how i work the green bean delivery system for our house.

i do our green bean delivery on a every other week schedule. the minimum delivery order is $35. everyone spends at least $35 on groceries every two weeks so this service could be applicable to everyone. except train hobos.

green bean has several different options for bin sizes and delivery frequency – once a week or bi-weekly – but we get the smallest produce bin every other week. then i add milk – either snowville or hartzler, – eggs from a local farmer and the cartons get returned and reused, and then i get something protein related. i have always loved the quality of meat we get from their partners and lately i have been very into the luna burger selections.

by covering our produce, milk, eggs, and protein once every other week i have greatly reduced the time spent in the grocery store.

now, it does take a few minutes of your time to customize your order online, but i have to say it is considerably less than what you would spend in the store. especially if you have a little lassie who is asking you for cookies, fruit snacks, graham crackers and a balloon all simultaneously.

Be sure to sign up for Green Bean delivery and get your first order by next week at $15 off! Use “MomJeanz” in the promo code and my name in the “referred by” section. Be sure to let me know which system has worked for you.

I packed my bags last night pre-flight

i’m sitting here with a to-do list of which only about half will get done by the time we have to get on the plane for california tomorrow morning.

yeah, that’s right. once i said that in my brain i thought “the hell with it, i’m going to california tomorrow! i don’t have to do it if i don’t wanna.” so i went downstairs and made myself a cocktail instead.

here’s to 10 days with friends, and sunshine and new scenery. annnnnd here’s to putting things off for a good reason. clink. clink. i just cheersed myself. and made up the word cheersed. see i’ve been so much more productive after this drink.

ps. cali friends we’re so excited to squeeze you. columbus friends we’re excited to squeeze you when we get back, too. oh gosh, and everyone everywhere else we’ll be excited to see you and squeeze you when we get to see and squeeze you. there. did i cover everyone? no one offended? good. ‘night y’all!

nutrition in your jeanz

this is the first of many subsequent posts to try to talk you into subscribing to Green Bean Delivery Service.

i first want to state that i approached Green Bean about offering readers a discount. I did this because i really, truly love what they provide for our family and i wanted to back them up. simple.

this service saves me time going to the grocery store. This service provides me with a network of farmers, grocers and local artisans that I can purchase from and have goods sent directly to our doorstep. Really. It’s there every other week. on the doorstep. Darla loves to help me go through it and see what surprises we have awaiting us. So, there is the entertainment factor.

this service has introduced me to new foods that i never would have picked out for our family of my own volition. Can you believe i had never had an acorn squash before green bean? i could never live without them now. the items that come in your delivery are completely customizable but sometimes i just like to go with the surprise on the chance that i’m going to really fall in love with a new item. sometimes i go in and substitute out the things we eat less of for something i know we’ll love but most of the time i like to use it as a challenge to expand horizons. to each his own, right?

this service saves me from impulse buys and has changed how we snack in this house. the bottom shelf of our pantry used to house a variety of chips and crackers. i thought that because i was buying whole grain and organic options that it was still ok. but now that shelf has been empty for quite a while. we are now snackers of peppers, cauliflower and broccoli.

this service supports local commerce and has a commitment to sustainable grocery shopping. the bins are reusable. items come packaged in recyclable brown bags when possible and anything that needs to be in a plastic bag comes in a biodegradable corn-based bag.  these are really important pieces of the puzzle for me.

i could go on and on but i’m stopping here b/c it’s 12:33 am and i’m tired. plus, this isn’t the last you’ve heard from me about our dear green bean

*to sign up and get $15 off your first order type MomJeanz (case sensitive) into the promo code and Elaine Tucker into the “referred by” section. welcome to the luxurious produce lifestyle.

“hey band, you want an olive?”

i knew there was a reason i bought that sheep coat.

it’s a conversation starter. people like it, comment on it, and touch it. and sometimes… those people are famous. ok, well this one time…monday night.

mike and i have been jonny corndawg fans since we saw him open for deer tick in bloomington, IN almost 3 years ago. so much so that mike donated to his latest kickstarter campaign and that’s how i found myself at rumba cafe to see jonny corndawg and the almond brothers on monday night.

let me just say, it was a real musical treat. i was not previously privy to the sweet sounds of robert ellis‘ music or the boot stompers of shovels and rope but both paired excellently with corndawg.

one of the many reasons i love rumba cafe is that it is small and the performers are pretty much forced to interact with their audience members. this works out well for a girl in a sheepskin coat. i think across the board musicians like fur. so…note to self…

after speaking with several members of said bands throughout the night, i just decided to go for broke. jonny had already agreed to sign a copy of the limited edition 7″ with dawes that i was picking up for michael, so while that was going on i handed my cards out like christmas presents. i simply offered that if they wanted a pancake breakfast i’d be more than happy to provide.

and they took me up on it. geek out! geek out!! geek out!!! so far we know that musicians like fur and pancakes. this is good information people.

so tuesday morning/early afternoon darla and i hosted 6 lovely gentlemen before they took off to pittsburgh. it was one of those intricate dances of gratitude where the fan is thankful for the band and the band is thankful for the fan. i think that can be lost sometimes but music is always at its best when those gratitudes are in harmony, no?

darla was in heaven i.e. hanging on legs, showing people her room and her dance moves, playing dress up. she even asked momma’s help to draw them a heart and cut it out. she colored inside of it and presented it to jonny saying “it’s for all of you to share.” i’ll never forget that pretty much the first thing she said when they came in was “hey band……you want an olive?”  she was eating olives.

i’m going to have some of these pictures printed and kept in my back pocket so that when she is a teenager and claims i am “uncool” i can whip it out and say “no, i let you dress like a flower with bands. i am a cool mom.”

these guys were wonderful guests and are very, VERY deserving of your time and attention. if they are coming through your town please go and see them (and tell them i sentcha.) I really could not express enough how much of a pleasure it was to have them in our home.

Robert Ellis, Jonny Corndawg and the Almond Brothers, thank you for cleaning your plates after you cleaned your plates.

from an adoring fan, we’ll see ya again soon. love from ohio.
