recently enjoyed moments

hi all,

i’m writing you from a completely relaxing, solo-mama weekend. the inside of my brain sounds like kevin mccallister: “i made my family disappear.”

i miss them but i’m also relishing the alone time. i’ve labeled this weekend my anne morrow lindbergh weekend because i really appreciated anne’s views on the importance of alone time for a female in gift from the sea.

so far i’ve taken a 5 hr nap, ate pie for dinner, watched some bad tv, and held a dancing + cleaning session. i’m very thankful for this opportunity to exist for a few days as a solitary entity.

so, i wanted to take a minute to wish everyone a wondrous, serene, and little bit magical weekend. here are a few pics of recently enjoyed moments:

i found myself keeping the camera in my pocket this week. i’ve been trying to remain present. this of course means much of our weekend was not captured for sharing but i got some very important experiences here.

i just finished reading my first book on unschooling and i’m so thankful i did. now when i look back on pictures like this i’m reminded just how much there is to learn from daily life. i’ll be working on removing my fears of inadequacy and uncertainty this next year as darla will be home with me full-time.

we tried new markets and old markets, both of which had plenty to feast the mind upon. pictured above is darla trying oils and spices. i’m so impressed with her at these markets. she asks questions and is not afraid to engage the merchants. she always stops to look at something i never would have on my own, like the chocolate booth where we got a step-by-step, interactive break-down of how chocolate is made. we sampled milk chocolate, 70% dark chocolate and an 85%. darla tried the raw chocolate as well. she decided she liked the 70% best of all. how could i walk away from an experience like that and not acknowledge all the learning that happened there?

as for me, i walked to a destination that is frequently driven or biked in our life and it was a pleasantly different experience on foot. i stopped to watch this blue heron on my walk down to the summerfest. it was a nice, serene moment before heading into the masses.

i also had a picnic dinner with my girl in the park and sat here, under this sycamore. i put my phone away and just watched her for the longest time. it felt wonderful to just watch her and see her interact with other children. the evening felt like it could be an early fall day. the park was filled with people out and about and it was nice to see everyone out except it made me feel lonely at the same time.

and by the way these pics are from different days of the weekend. darla choose to wear that dress all weekend and i can’t even remember if it was washed in between days or not. whatevs.

sending you my best for a lovely start to your week and i hope you and yours had a peaceful, wonderful weekend.

oh web friends, we spent our second weekend with my family in indiana. i feel so blessed to be surrounded by the beauty and love of some amazing people. it’s still such a painful reason to be together but through it all there is laughter,  learning experiences and incredible things happening. a family is being strengthened and i’ve said “i love you” more in the past few weeks than ever before in my life.

the canvas with the quote belonged to my cousin. i adore it. the crosses were sent home from the orphanage where my cousin was working.

we’re headed back again this weekend for services and hard-core family time. is it so weird to say i’m looking forward to it? because i am. in the best possible way. for now i’m just trying to get things under control at the homestead. i’m anxious to move forward with purpose. i think that is what my cousin would want. i think she’s been there, whispering to me of  ways i could carry service work into my own profession.

i’ll leave you with the full quote which was the inspiration for my cousin’s canvas:

“Nothing is more practical than finding God,
That is, than falling in a love in a quite absolute, final way.
What you are in love with, what seizes your imagination will affect everything.
It will decide what will get you out of bed in the mornings,
What you will do with your evenings,
How you spend your weekends,
What you read,
Who you know,
What breaks your heart,
And what amazes you with joy and gratitude.
Fall in love, stay in love, and it will decide everything.”

cool things…we do them sometimes.

here are some pics from junctionview’s last hurrah. darla was a superstar in the balloon room. so sad that a place this cool, within our walking distance, will be turned into a parking lot or a road or condos for happenin’ 60 year-olds or something of that lot. sad me.

but we had a good time there on saturday seeing friends, listening to some impressive local bands, and taking in some really very talented works. darla would like me to note that her favorite part was the cookie we bought her and the dolls with skulls as heads. of course…

exhaustingly good amounts of fun time this past weekend. weekend bits:

1.  new bird feeder project  2. selfie before the en vogue show  3 & 4. the terribly anticlimactic show that was somehow still tons of fun and i would go again in a heartbeat  5. tried el camino for the first time. thank goodness for healthy, cheap tacos. and i mean CHEAP.  6 & 7. year of the buffalo in-store at vinyl frontier. Mike arranged his first in store and i have to say, he picked a mighty fine band {biased!}.  8. darla worked her magic and made fast friends with the band. they gifted her a copy of their ep and a guitar pick. it’s been our soundtrack in the car ever since. you should check it out. NOW.  9. finished the weekend with a valentine-crafting & pizza party at our friends’.

weekend also included but not pictured: a karaoke session at mickey’s, sunday brunch with lady friends, darla’s introduction to star wars, and cousin hang-time at our place. all normal things like gym, grocery and housecleaning fit in where they could…or not.

i love busy weekends full of life. keep them coming.

other than seeing A Birth Story, my weekend was pretty much contained in my household. i am fine with this because it grossly rained all weekend. i did attend another kickbutt boot camp that has left me sore even today. this is good. sore is the new sexy. pinterest told me that. a few projects from the weekend:
food colorwatermelonmixer

headbands

1.  a food color and coffee filter bunting project hubster and darla came up with  2.  more water infusions. i’ve been experimenting and so far i like cucumber and watermelon the best. wonderfully delicious  3. bread baking attempts. it’s taken me a year to make good on my bread baking resolution but i’m getting in the swing of it. my yeast creations { yes, i just said that } need help, though. anyone have any good recipes?  4.  a little project i’m working on for an upcoming weekend.

yeah, that’s pretty much it other than lots of pretending to be harry potter and dance parties.

thanks for catching up with us.
