vacation time share, redux
here’s the rest of darla’s vacation. i say “darla’s vacation” because there is a noticeable lack of any photos of me, meg or my lovely girl friends. just darla, cory and elsa. it looks like they all had a great week together, huh? oh well, jussgonnahavtagoback!
THIS is a mike wright smile
i love these last two pictures. darla was trying to argue with me about something probably inconsequential and then she was trying to be indignant. it’s pretty hard to take an indignant banana seriously… i can’t wait to put these pics on a graduation announcement some day.
we had lots of adventures, a good deal of which were not captured on film because i was trying to put the camera down, have conversations and be present some of the time.
i would say darla’s first trip to “Lost Angeles” was a success.
“it’s totalary magical and you get to believe it”
california has been a whirlwind of wonderful activities, so far, and it is thoroughly kicking my butt. yesterday we took the girls to Disneyland. It was darla’s first time in an amusement park. she was amused. here’s just a bit of the day:
well, what can i say about the day? thanks to the precision science the buzzker family has perfected of amusement park going, we thoroughly covered the parks. Our coined phrase was “thrilled to the max.” Darla was pretty enthused about her first trip to disneyland.
i hadn’t been on a rollercoaster since before darla was born and it was soooo good. i have this, ummm, we’ll call it a “condition” where i just start laughing uncontrollably on rides. it’s prominent in the teacup video if anyone wants to hear. i’m sorry that the audio in that is just me laughing hysterically. being whirled through space just makes me astoundingly giddy, i guess.
hubster, i soooo wished you could have been there. i wish you could be here for the whole trip. in the words of elsa bun as she was preparing d for the disney experience:
“IT’S TOTALARY MAGICAL AND YOU GET TO BELIEVE IT!”
yes, it totalary was.
weekending something.something
hey, um, here’s a few of the weekend highlights:
we did a friday evening bike ride up to jeni’s ice cream in lieu of dinner. clearly, we enjoyed it. darla picked magnolia and mochi because she’s got some refined tastebuds for a three year old. she got the cutest little ice cream mustache in the process. the last photo cracks me up. that’s her real head! on her real body! i didn’t photoshop that because i don’t know how to do that. this girl’s got some proportions on her.
we communed with nature and darla welcomed our daffodils to the world. she also successfully terrorized a ladybug for about 10 min because she was trying to get the bug to go with her to the yogurt shop. i think i may have gone a little overboard with this “bugs are our friends” business.
we parked it up with some hipster baby friends alllll sunday afternoon and then built living room forts to hide from the storms. darla had a good time pretending to be scared. i explained what was happening when it started hailing and she yelled “now there’s ice for the polar bears!” this is because at the zoo we learned about how the ice was melting in the arctic and the polar bear population is plummeting. after the storm had passed i went out and gathered some hail pellets for her in a cup. once i gave them to her she promptly ate them. sigh. she’s normal.
that’s a wrap for us. hope you and yours had a wonderful weekend as well.
dear salty sailor
you missed the first week of summer, errr, well, the first week of summer weather that is. needless to say we spent a lot of time out of doors with various combinations of little people.
barefootin’ in backyards
i had originally planned to align my mental forces against being happy about this heat spike but then i was reminded by jeff about one thing: beer. drinking it outside. ok, global warming i’m officially on your side.
not really but i needed that beer.
we also made our first trip to the zoo of the year with cousin and uncle
it was a very successful trip and also resulted in a beer afterward.
my brain is almost officially fried for the day but i will leave you with a quote from darla: “welcome to the pickle toe factory. bet you can’t eat just one!”
i’d like to share a blog post from our friend chris from the day we met up with them at kingdom of bounce. i really love his blog. his daughter even has her own art blog too! so thankful for new friends.
non-existent day
leap day was an excellent day around our household. easy going morning, fun-filled afternoon with friends and dinner with our neighbors. pretty phenomenal.
we went with the burkeybuns crew over to Krema peanut butter factory for sandwiches and shakes. i told darla that since today doesn’t exist it wouldn’t count against our lenten promises. we might have partook in some sweets. but not too bad. here’s darla yelling “jelly!” in my face.
have you noticed that i get a lot of things yelled in my face. eh.
and then on to hours spent outside playing in the park. it was just the loveliest day. thank you leap day. thank you for what your carefree aura brought to our lives today.
and so on to march…
holidaze
the last of our christmastime festivities are wrapping up today and tomorrow it’s back to columbus to pack up and settle into our new abode. i’ll share our past week with you now, while i watch the fellowship of the ring. ahhhh holiday traditions.
first up: the wright stuff
1 & 2: family viewing of new muppets movie. popcorn overturned after 8 seconds in the theater. 3: lunch 4: salt dough ornaments with aunt colleen and cousin clarebear 5: upon discovering her stocking she exclaimed “what in the world is in here!” 6: opening presents and goodies with grandma 7, 8 & 9: so much enjoyment from a pair of wings and a lollipop 10: said lollipop 11: she said she was knitting a “thneed” with her new tent poles.
these last three pictures i’ve saved for a section of their own. the best part of christmas this year was seeing the littlest cousinfriends together. they have a relationship all their own now and they L-O-V-E each other like whoa. I want to go on record as saying that with this move mike and i weren’t sure, at first, if we were going to stay in columbus. we love this city but it’s not our forever spot. we considered moving on while we still have a flexible life but decided the reason for staying a bit longer is for these sassafrassies right here. there’s no guarantee that fortuna will bestow brothers or sisters or more cousins upon either girl. we owe them the opportunity to develop a strong bond. i say that if we give it one more year these girls will have a established a relationship that time and distance won’t be able to asunder.
a commons holiday celebration
we finally figured out how to control our wild child last night: freeze her into submission.
we ventured to the columbus commons holiday fair for the opening night. mainly because of the fireworks. i will go to ANYTHING if fireworks are on the bill. it turned out to be quite a nice family event, even if we were all frozen solid after only an hour. i am yet to be disappointed by anything the columbus commons people have put together. I guess the only disappointment would be the overcrowded food truck fair they had in the summer but you can’t knock people for putting on too successful of an event. and i got my food truck fill last night. momma wins again.
well we got darla down to the fair long enough to ride the carousel, eat off some trucks and see the fireworks before splitting. darla was simply too cold to want to run around too much but despite that she was having a wonderful time. All Columbusites? Columbusans? Columbusonians? yeah i like columbusonians. All Columbusonians should try to check it out this weekend. here’s a schedule. take a looksie.
if you decide to go bring along your own hot beverages. the fair sold out last night and i wish we’d had some lovely hot cocoa to sip as we strolled through the lighted displays. I recommend the carnitas tacos at Mojo Taco truck and mike had the curried chicken fries from Tatohead. one of the tastiest things i’ve had in an aeon.
happy holidays!
dear internet friends
time for our weekly update.
well i guess the biggest news would be that we’re moving to a new place in just a few weeks. yay!
and now it’s sunk in that we have to start packing things in boxes during the holidays. but we’ll get through it. i keep telling myself it won’t be that stressful. ha.
we’ve done lots of normal everyday things. i wish i had more excitement to reveal but it’s been pretty low key which has been nice. most of my excitement has come in the form of finally, FINALLY, i-know-meg-buzzi-i-know finally, checking into the friday night lights scene.
here’s some of the normalcy:
1 & 2 on a kiddie date. one of the reasons i love this man is he’s always willing to be right in it. 3 chicken hobos. i love wintertime hefty heartiness.
after darla’s last gymnastics class we decided to hit up smith’s restaurant in clintonville. the place is retro radical! the food held up, as well. darla had fun playing with the vintage decor and also asserting her independence.
1 distancing herself at an early age 2, 3 & 4 weight and fortune machine. i masterminded the question but her answer was perfect.
also i just want to point out that “am i too emotional” is sandwiched between “should i buy a new hat” and “should i pay off all my debt” hmmmm.
5 i really really really want a vintage range.
6 officially the cutest pjs she’s had to date. i’m glad i got them a size too big because i’m never going to let her take them off. ever. also boober fraggle is her new best friend. this requires a lot of hand puppeteering on mike’s part so it’s a little effort intensive around here right now. but boober gets her to do things she’d never EVER concede to doing for us so it’s worth it in the end.
one of the funny things darla told mike the other day was that he’s “going fat.” this is not the case but it was a pretty hilarious response to mike’s second helpings at the dinner table. i asked her this morning who her family is and she first named our nuclear family, then extended family and then she continued on to name lots of family friends. i don’t think this is an accident. it was our aim that she see our friends as family. it’s nice to know that foundation has been laid.
well, i’m off to clean and start the packing process which is really the purging process at this point. wish me luck. and have a wonderful weekend.
