vintage shopping

while in indiana last weekend we went on a vintage shopping excursion at days gone by antique mall.

i had a small breakdown from insane happiness while we were in the store. i’m not joking. i was rooted to the ground for at least 2 minutes, laughing uncontrollably in sheer joy of all the goodness surrounding me.

it quickly passed and i was able to move on to full-fledged shopping mode. here’s what we found:

IMG_3445

the most amazing vintage high chair

IMG_3444

umm words cannot describe the ridiculousness of this bag. it was gold lamé with puffy painted words and bedazzled rhinestones. remember ladies, money isn’t everything.

IMG_3456

mike purchased a lot of old postcards. this was the best one by far.

IMG_3586

this was a gem of a garment. it was a 1940s dress and it was stunning on but, alas, i could not zip it up around the girls. i still think of it at night.

IMG_3587IMG_3588

cousin tried on a fetching cape and reunited with some clogs she had met years before.

and now…

for the piece de resistance:

yesssssssssssss………….

IMG_3448

oh yesssssssssss……..

that has to be the most amazing thing ever created. a jesus hot air balloon lamp with a scared clown dangling from the side. i call it “clown of little faith.”

i just want to meet the adult who had to look up at this every night during his/her formative years and thumb through all the complexes this person must have as a result. i mean, a clown hanging from the basket of a jesus balloon.

don’t go all crazy on me. i’m pretty sure if jesus were here i’d show this to him and he’d laugh. a lot. i wouldn’t try to talk to him about the meaning of life, or heaven. i’d just be like “hold up, dude. you gotta see this.”

here’s what i walked away with.

IMG_3547

a blue sequins skirt, a pretty cool feathered fedora, and a wool poncho trimmed with alapaca fur with two alpacas embroidered into the built in scarf. plus, an elton john record and heeled cowgirl boots, not pictured.

i eventually just had to stop looking at stuff. it was all too good. i highly suggest days gone by antiques in fountain square for some good finds and cheap prices.

vintage fo’ life.

yeasayer

yeasayer is my favorite band. i love them. i have been waiting in anticipation for their third album for a long time.

i took the sequins vintage skirt i found on saturday as a sign from the universe that sunday’s concert was going to be AMAZING.

my sequins skirt tells no lies – except maybe the fact that it says it’s a size 4. i am not a size 4 – yeasayer sounded great. i’m excited to hear the new material in album form. it was slower than i had expected, a bit more trancier and synthier, but i liked it.

b/c it was still grooveable, shakeable and moveable. that’s pretty much all i care about in life.

i have a confession, in my search for the highly coveted parking spots, i almost ran over anand. and then when i was entering the venue i was pushing on the door while he was pulling and the door swung open pretty fast, almost taking him out. i am devastated that this man probably now thinks his biggest fan is trying to assassinate him ninja style. (my tactics were quite ninja-like, agreed? yes?)

so if my boys are reading this – thanks for a great show last sunday night. anand, i am NOT trying to kill you. i love you too much and i have too many future ticket investments for your shows to do a thing like that.

sorry.

ps. this was my first show at 20th century theater in cincinnati. i’d go back there anytime.

anyday.

family fun fest

ok, so we’ve been doing a lot of living life instead of blogging about it, so, i’m going to try to catch up. a lot of cool awesomeness has transpired.

like many people, i have been blessed with a wonderful family. i mean, they are all REALLY cool. one of my cousins got hitched last weekend so it meant full-fledged family reunion. we made quite a weekend out of it.

the weekend consisted of: cousin reunion night out, great lake swimmers, late night karaoke, vintage store shopping, family fish fry & june birthday celebrations, the marion county fair, wedding wedding wedding, hotel party with a baby and sunday funday pool party. mike, darla and i then continued on to cincinnati for yeasayer on sunday night but that is all for another post.

pics!

fahder’s day

hope you all had a great father’s day. darla came back from her weekend at the grandparents so that made it a pretty fun day.

we started the day with a pancake breakfast and then met up with my parents for lunch and ice cream. it was nice to be around two pretty great fathers. darla is one lucky girl.

in other weekend happenings, we saw lindsey buckingham at the southern theater on saturday night and tried out the jury room for the first time.

cleveland town

we spent the eve in cleveland town for destroyer. i’d like to spend some more time in that city. we had good eats, good drinks, good tunes and great times. we’re very lucky to have some very lovely friends who show us phenomenal places to sup.

we dined at momocho and then took in destroyer at beechland ballroom. i will return to both. hopefully soon.

‘hood

i love our neighborhood.

gym, super-secret-super-cool swimming pool, pub & playground all surround our house. oh, also a pretty nice hotel is next to the gym which is lucky when you can’t be in your house but need access to your stuff.

smiles.

in short, our ‘hood makes it easy to be displaced from one’s home.

darla says “isn’t it so nice to eat outside?!” mike taught darla tic-tac-toe. i sampled the draft cider. we ate lots of delicious fried food and then went to the playground to work some of it off.

it was the most excellent of days.

catchup & mustardiness

well, hello, it’s been a while. we’ve been living in a hotel for over a week (our house is having some major plumbing work done) and it’s kinda thrown our schedules out of whack. momjeanz hasn’t had very much of my attention. and that’s ok. it’s been good to put more effort and attention towards personal relationships. we’ve been as busy as always and our staycation has had some perks that life in our own house doesn’t provide: no cooking or cleaning!

here’s what we’ve been up to:

darla came with us to see deep sea diver + antlers + the shins. she had a good time rolling down the lawn. after the first antlers song darla ran forward, cupped her hands around her mouth and shouted “I RESPECT YOU” at the stage. it was pretty awesome.

IMG_3091

IMG_3093IMG_3094

the complimentary breakfast here is cray cray! every day is a delicate dance of bargaining with darla to eat more fruit and yogurt so she can earn a donut. it’s been working. i love breakfast buffets!

IMG_3159

i had a ladydate to see feist, who is currently being backed by mountain man. oh my word, it was an amazing show. AND everyone on stage was in prairie costume sooooo i pretended, in my head, that they were all a part of a covered wagon caravan making their way across the country and had stopped to give an impromptu performance. take me with you to oregon!!

IMG_3190

we took in a free performance of Robin Hood at schiller park. darla made friends with anyone who had a dog that was in our immediate vicinity.

IMG_3201

we took a bike ride up to whetstone and rode through the rose gardens.

IMG_3205IMG_3257

for the weekend we hit up the park street festival which helped us spend almost the entire day outside on saturday. bounce castles, food trucks, live music and snow cones = hours of entertainment.

any other moment of last week not pictured you can just assume was spent at the pool – either hotel or grandview – or at one of the two restaurants adjacent to the hotel.

hopefully, we’ll be back in our house by the week’s end. we’ll keep ya posted.

pun. blog pun!

project iron thighz

last week:

5/29 – 4.2 mi

5/30 – 15 mi

5/31 – 2 mi

6/3 –  4.3 mi

25.5 weekly total

this week – i didn’t do a good job of keeping track the distances each day. i know we did a 13.5 mi ride, a 4.2 mi and a 6.5 mi ride. I’m going to add another 5 miles in there for little short trips i did around the hood but didn’t record.

so weekly is – 24.2

grand total – 132.3

5 1/2 gallons ridden off thus far.

happy riding!
