love swap: runaway cape

i’m very excited about today.

because my horoscope says new opportunities are on the horizon…

and

bc i’m excited to post my first sponsorship highlight. and i’m double-decker, triple-scoop excited that it’s on behalf of one of my family members.

you may remember that darla was a flower girl at my cousin’s beautiful maine-based wedding this summer. cousinbride had tons of handmade wedding details including these very cool light catcher decorations. i loved them so much that i begged to take one home at the end of the reception.

well, cousin-o-mine opened her own etsy shop for these handmade creations. cousin’s shop will be sitting over there on the sidebar for a bit. please click on over there and take a peek around. she has lots of color combos, including christmas and nursery themed options. it’s never too early to start planning for next summer’s nuptials either.

check back on friday for a Runaway Cape giveaway and a discount for momjeanz readers.

baby wear ware

maybe you’ve already read, bc the mommy blogosphere is blowin’ up about it, but ergobaby is having a contest to design their next ergo carrier.

the ergobaby was my favorite of our baby carriers, especially when darla was older. it was perfect for days that i knew we would be walking a lot. it got us through 2 music festivals, countless city walks, and a handful of airports, all before ours was stolen from our car. saddy sad face. but that is a testament to how nice these carriers are. they get stolen from cars! they left our stereo alone and took the ergo!

i have spent more than a few minutes thinking about which design we will get as a replacement if baby number 2 ever comes to pass. now i am thinking of how cute an ergobaby in momjeanz floral would be. hmmmm?

if you feel a strong desire to design a carrier for your little one you can visit their site here for details of the contest and instructions for entering.

good luck!

vintage shopping

while in indiana last weekend we went on a vintage shopping excursion at days gone by antique mall.

i had a small breakdown from insane happiness while we were in the store. i’m not joking. i was rooted to the ground for at least 2 minutes, laughing uncontrollably in sheer joy of all the goodness surrounding me.

it quickly passed and i was able to move on to full-fledged shopping mode. here’s what we found:

the most amazing vintage high chair

IMG_3444

umm words cannot describe the ridiculousness of this bag. it was gold lamé with puffy painted words and bedazzled rhinestones. remember ladies, money isn’t everything.

IMG_3456

mike purchased a lot of old postcards. this was the best one by far.

IMG_3586

this was a gem of a garment. it was a 1940s dress and it was stunning on but, alas, i could not zip it up around the girls. i still think of it at night.

cousin tried on a fetching cape and reunited with some clogs she had met years before.

and now…

for the piece de resistance:

yesssssssssssss………….

IMG_3448

oh yesssssssssss……..

that has to be the most amazing thing ever created. a jesus hot air balloon lamp with a scared clown dangling from the side. i call it “clown of little faith.”

i just want to meet the adult who had to look up at this every night during his/her formative years and thumb through all the complexes this person must have as a result. i mean, a clown hanging from the basket of a jesus balloon.

don’t go all crazy on me. i’m pretty sure if jesus were here i’d show this to him and he’d laugh. a lot. i wouldn’t try to talk to him about the meaning of life, or heaven. i’d just be like “hold up, dude. you gotta see this.”

here’s what i walked away with.

IMG_3547

a blue sequins skirt, a pretty cool feathered fedora, and a wool poncho trimmed with alapaca fur with two alpacas embroidered into the built in scarf. plus, an elton john record and heeled cowgirl boots, not pictured.

i eventually just had to stop looking at stuff. it was all too good. i highly suggest days gone by antiques in fountain square for some good finds and cheap prices.

vintage fo’ life.

Ornamental Things

i’m trying not to be too much of a shopper these days but one of my favorite little jewelry sites, Ornamental Things, is having their annual birthday sale – 30 to 40 percent off – and i thought i would share. i’ve bought something from their booth two years in a row at pitchfork and they continue to be some of my most worn pieces of jewelry. good quality and fun, quirky designs.

here are some of my picks:

birdcage silhouette

compass necklace

art deco shield earrings

aaaannnddd here’s what i got. something cute for everyday wear.

what’d you get?

Root Children Visit

the root children left some nice goodies for darla to welcome spring

root children

They brought her: flower seeds, ruth heller coloring books, Richard Doyle’s Fairyland Coloring Book, The Flowers’ Festival by Elsa Beskow, a tank dress for warm weather by theifandbandit, and new Salt Water Sandals for her first trip to the pacific.

i think she was most fond of the sandals. she wanted to wear dress and shoes immediately and wanted to plant her seeds immediately too. i understand all those things. momma’s the same way. she ran outside and shouted “thank you root children!” first thing after she donned both items.

happy spring everyone!

stay in the lines

in case any of you are looking for gifts for wee ones to celebrate the first day of spring, check out ruth heller coloring books. so many nature & outdoor designs that will put all those elmo coloring book pages to shame. pretty, pretty! darla will be receiving a few of these from the flower children come March 20.

In Full Bloom: A Close-Up Coloring Book

what i bought this week on the internet

my fashion tastes usually fall into one of three catagories: lace, floral, southwestern. here’s what i got this week with the excuse of celebrating a birthday in LA in just a couple of weeksdarla makeup1

looks like floral got left out this time

1. earrings by DittyDrops on Etsy. i wanted just about every pair. my second choice would be these, just in case anyone is shopping for me for that big 2-9 i have coming up.

2. Urban Outfitters Dress. lace + scallops = perfect warm weather dress in my eyes.
