‘hood
i love our neighborhood.
gym, super-secret-super-cool swimming pool, pub & playground all surround our house. oh, also a pretty nice hotel is next to the gym which is lucky when you can’t be in your house but need access to your stuff.
smiles.
in short, our ‘hood makes it easy to be displaced from one’s home.
i told darla to make funny faces for those shots. bahahahaha.
darla says “isn’t it so nice to eat outside?!” mike taught darla tic-tac-toe. i sampled the draft cider. we ate lots of delicious fried food and then went to the playground to work some of it off.
swings. swings. swings. swings.
it was the most excellent of days.
catchup & mustardiness
well, hello, it’s been a while. we’ve been living in a hotel for over a week (our house is having some major plumbing work done) and it’s kinda thrown our schedules out of whack. momjeanz hasn’t had very much of my attention. and that’s ok. it’s been good to put more effort and attention towards personal relationships. we’ve been as busy as always and our staycation has had some perks that life in our own house doesn’t provide: no cooking or cleaning!
here’s what we’ve been up to:
darla came with us to see deep sea diver + antlers + the shins. she had a good time rolling down the lawn. after the first antlers song darla ran forward, cupped her hands around her mouth and shouted “I RESPECT YOU” at the stage. it was pretty awesome.
the complimentary breakfast here is cray cray! every day is a delicate dance of bargaining with darla to eat more fruit and yogurt so she can earn a donut. it’s been working. i love breakfast buffets!
i had a ladydate to see feist, who is currently being backed by mountain man. oh my word, it was an amazing show. AND everyone on stage was in prairie costume sooooo i pretended, in my head, that they were all a part of a covered wagon caravan making their way across the country and had stopped to give an impromptu performance. take me with you to oregon!!
we took in a free performance of Robin Hood at schiller park. darla made friends with anyone who had a dog that was in our immediate vicinity.
we took a bike ride up to whetstone and rode through the rose gardens.
for the weekend we hit up the park street festival which helped us spend almost the entire day outside on saturday. bounce castles, food trucks, live music and snow cones = hours of entertainment.
some daddy-led art projects on old ocean charts.
…and just a few more mommy + daughter shots at the park of roses
any other moment of last week not pictured you can just assume was spent at the pool – either hotel or grandview – or at one of the two restaurants adjacent to the hotel.
hopefully, we’ll be back in our house by the week’s end. we’ll keep ya posted.
pun. blog pun!

last week:
5/29 – 4.2 mi
5/30 – 15 mi
5/31 – 2 mi
6/3 – 4.3 mi
25.5 weekly total
this week – i didn’t do a good job of keeping track the distances each day. i know we did a 13.5 mi ride, a 4.2 mi and a 6.5 mi ride. I’m going to add another 5 miles in there for little short trips i did around the hood but didn’t record.
so weekly is – 24.2
grand total – 132.3
5 1/2 gallons ridden off thus far.
happy riding!
and back again
and now we’ve been having a few (somewhat) relaxing days getting adjusted back to real life. mike is taking classes in florida for the week so darla and i have spent the majority of our time by the pool.
or on the bike.
or biking to the pool.
you get the picture.
darla was very excited about her floaties. she put them on and immediately exclaimed “everybody wearing floaties is cool!” complete with thumbs-up arm motion. she was equally excited that the pool has spongebob popsicles. she adopted some spongebob-like facial expressions while eating:
timing is everything in photography, i guess. i’m going to be in trouble for that one someday.
upon returning from the pool darla received some mail from grandma and grandpa wright
i got to jig in some flannel last night to Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros.
the flannel would have been a great idea except LC moved the show indoors. so then flannel became a sweaty idea. but i didn’t care. Carly and i grooved and shook our hair anyway.
after the show “Mr. Sharpe” was outside getting mobbed. I tried to get him to bless my bike but as previously mentioned, he was in a mob.
also, that giant balloon lamp WAS NOT filled with candy or glitter.
sigh.
there
i’ve been pretty bad at removing myself from life to snap photos as of late. i don’t think it’s altogether a bad thing. here’s the very few pics i managed to get in DC:
as you can see, we did lots of walking. it was the only time i would stop and think “hey, i should get a picture of this.”
for a weekend it felt like we had our feet firmly planted in two different places. DC still feels like home. maybe it was because we got to hang with a bajillion of our friends and it felt like old times. i miss everyone so much.
thanks to everyone for the hangtime this weekend. we loved every minute of it. except darla, who says meeting the penguin at the yogurt shop was her favorite part of the weekend. that picture is the truth proof.

only a 3-day ride week:
5/22 – 1.0 mi
5/23 – 7.2 mi
5/24 – 9.2 mi
weekly total – 17.4 mi
grand total – 82.6 mi
another gallon down. i’m hoping we’ll put some serious miles on RuJu next week to make up for the shortage in riding days this week.
happy riding.

Columbus loves Mikey McD
Darla saw Michael McDonald last night. Her life is now complete at the ripe age of 3.5!
So, columbus loves them some Michael McDonald, or at least some free Michael McDonald. Darla just loved the free food and carousel rides – free to her. We still had to pay for it.
We also invented groove ball at the show. It simply involves tossing the ball back and forth but each player has to do a groove before they throw. If you forget to groove You. Are. Out.
missing my family
mike took darla on a two-day baseball extravaganza up to pittsburgh. i am waiting at the door for them to get back. i miss them both so much. mike sent these pics. looks like they’re having a grand (slam) time. PNC Park makes the 7th national ball park darla has visited thus far. how many more to go?
sorry about that unfortunate pun earlier but didn’t that last picture make up for it?
i cannot wait to see that little girl.
ps. i’m happy to see that mike and darla didn’t sit too close to the field. if we sit any closer than the nosebleeds i spend the whole entire game trying to cover my face every time the ball is hit b/c getting hit with a baseball is no joke people! here’s what i’m talking about.
